Our next UCD In Conversation will feature authors Emma Donoghue & Sarah Moss.
The conversation will take place on Thursday, 24 September at 7PM IST, and will consist of a 30 minute conversation followed by an audience Q&A.
Emma is an award-winning novelist, playwright and screenwriter. Her most recent novel, The Pull of the Stars, became a bestseller on publication in July 2020. Set in Dublin during the Great Flu pandemic in 1918, it is about a nurse midwife, a doctor and a volunteer helper living through three days in a maternity quarantine ward. Her novel Room was shortlisted for the Man Booker and Orange Prizes, and was adapted into a feature film.
Professor Sarah Moss is an award-winning novelist and literary scholar, who has just begun her tenure as Assistant Professor of Creative Writing in the UCD School of English, Drama and Film. Her new novel Summerwater, published in August 2020, is a devastating story told over 24 hours in the Scottish highlands, and a searing exploration of our capacity for both kinship and cruelty in these divided times. Her novel Ghost Wall was longlisted for the Women’s Prize and shortlisted for the RSL Ondaatje Prize, among others.
The Conversation will be moderated by Rick O'Shea. Rick is an RTE broadcaster, currently on RTE Gold and The Book Show on RTE Radio 1. He’s also the host of Shelf Analysis – the weekly live online chat show interviewing authors about their favourite books. He runs Ireland’s largest book club and hosts public author interviews at festivals around the country every year.
UCD In Conversation is an interview series featuring conversations with world-class academics and alumni leaders. Hosted on Zoom on Thursday evenings, these lively, virtual discussions will focus on critical global challenges and offer insights for uncertain times.
